ABSTRACT

Based on the analysis of two conventional methods to determine the focal length of a thermal lens, a new method is proposed in which the beam quality of the probe beam in lasing material is taken into account. An exact formula to calculate the thermal focal length is given and its validity is confirmed by experiments.
